See renderings for Marriott hotel proposed for Ann Arbor’s State Street

ANN ARBOR, MI -- Ann Arbor may have yet another hotel development coming to South State Street.

The proposed site plan is hoping to bring a development of a four-story Marriott Springhill Suites hotel to 2295 S. State Street in Ann Arbor. The development plans to demolish the site’s existing building to redevelop a nearly 64,000 square-foot hotel that will feature more than 100 rooms and an indoor pool.

A virtual participation meeting for residents to ask questions or share any concerns they may have about the development is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 7.

The group behind the development is Bacall Companies, which is operating under SHS State Hospitality LLC for the project. Bacall Companies was established in 1998 and is behind the creation and management of a variety of properties including retail, office spaces, food and beverage and other hotels.

Chairman Dorayd Bacall said the company is owned by him and his three other brothers -- Dante, Doval and Daivin. He added that the group oversees roughly 40 hotels in the Metro Detroit area.

Dorayd Bacall confirmed the group is behind a few hotel developments in the Ann Arbor area including the Home2 Suites by Hilton at 361 W. Eisenhower Parkway, which he said recently broke ground for construction. He said the group is “staying very focused in Ann Arbor” and plans to bring even more developments in the future.

Bacall Companies is also the group that was behind taking over the half-built hotel at 1250 E. Michigan Ave. in Saline. The company purchased the project, which sat untouched for years in mid-August 2022.

The zoning for the proposed hotel’s property currently permits this type of development, according to the city’s website. If all goes well, Dorayd said the group is planning to break ground for its newest hotel venture on South State Street by spring of 2024.
