Hotel Indigo heading to Troy

An active Oakland County landlord has bought a Troy hotel at a key location.

Birmingham-based Bacall Companies LLC and Superior Hospitality Group LLC closed on the purchase of the former Drury Inn & Suites hotel last week at 575 W. Big Beaver Road at Interstate 75. Signage on the property has been removed.

The companies plan to turn it into a dual-branded property with 154 Hotel Indigo rooms and 63 Even rooms. Both are IHG Hotels & Resorts brands. Hotel Indigo is a boutique hotel concept, while Even hotels are geared toward guest wellness.

Dante Bacall, one of the four Bacall brothers who runs Bacall Companies, said the property purchase and renovations are expected to cost at least $30 million or so, with work to begin in September and take 12-18 months to complete. The hotel will remain open during renovations, Bacall said.

An email was sent to IHG on Monday afternoon seeking comment.

This is the latest deal for Bacall, which is run by Dante and his brothers Daivin, Dorayd and Doval.

Most recently, they bought the 41,400-square-foot building at 390 Park St. in downtown Birmingham for the company's new headquarters.

This follows the $14 million purchase of 380 N. Old Woodward Ave. in March 2022, the $12.25 million purchase of the Huntington Center office building at 220 Park St. in December 2022 and the $37 million purchase of the retail and office components of the Birmingham Place property at 401 S. Old Woodward Ave. in September 2022.

Bacall Companies started as an investment firm focusing on value-add properties and ultimately added development to its repertoire. Today the company has more than 4 million square feet of real estate and some 7,000 hotel rooms in its portfolio, Dante Bacall said.

It has done build-to-suit projects for Walgreen’s, Family Dollar and other companies and focuses on retail and shopping center projects up to 150,000 square feet.
